virtual regards

In the past six weeks three fine bloggers nominated me for virtual awards and each time I was delighted and very surprised. All three are passionately committed to pursuing their ideal of making the real world a better place for all of us now and for those who show up on the planet in the future.

So what I thought I'd do this time is to give a virtual award back to each along with a brief review of why each of them deserves an award far more than me. Here goes:

The first one to arrive was from the lovely Border Explorer back in September. BE and her husband, Mr. BE, spend half the year in Iowa and the other half on the border between Texas and Mexico and in both places they are on the front lines of the fight for human rights. I'm sure they could be living in far greater physical comfort but they have chosen to devote themselves to the well being of migrant workers and their families.

BE uses whatever spare time she can gather to keep us informed about the plight of people forgotten by the media in this country and for this reason I award her the virtual 'Purity of Spirit' necklace.

A few weeks later I received an award from Divajood who lives in LA and works in the travel industry. She very bravely struck out on her own in spite of the economic downturn recently rather than work for an employer who didn't appreciate her talents and skill. In the midst of all the turmoil she's also campaigned as the kind of president many of us on the far left of center would like to see running this country. Her granddaughter, also known as the Secretary of Strawberries, has a very clear and distinct point of view.

Diva's political and creative writing skills win her the virtual 'Tornado of Change' necklace.

Just a few days ago I got a note from

the tres charmante La Belette Rouge to let me know she'd nominated Adventures Ink for a blog award. LBR and I haven't done mutual visits for months but naturally I went over to see what she and He Weasel have been up to since their move from Austin, TX to Valencia CA. LBR writes and writes very well about everything that catches her interest and she's interested in every waking moment. Her flights of fancy are a joy to read as she whisks you away to worlds where people live lives she dreams of living then drops you back to the strange earth we know where real people make magic happen.

LBR gets the virtual 'Passion for Fashion' necklace.

You all have my fondest regards and hopes all our best dreams come true.

  2. Susan: I have to say that you are far too humble. You deserve all of these awards and, in my mind, you deserve a book deal. You are a talented writer and artist( double threat).

Wow, I give you an award and then I come to your beautiful blog and discover you have thrown me a gorgeous bouquet of kind compliments and I get the prestigious "Passion for Fashion necklace." I have it on with my p.j.'s and it really classes-up the ensemble.

Seriously, you are a very kind and generous blogger and I am delighted that I came back to your blog( it took me a while to get back in the full bloggy swing after my move---but I am glad I did).

  4. You made those necklaces? Oh, my god, they're gorgeous. Thank you for the award, and I'm going to post it on my blog because it is gorgeous and perhaps it will send people to you to make purchases. I need to remember to take a photo wearing the scarf, because that's amazing as well.

  5. sera - Yeah, they are. I had no idea what the heck I'd do up here or if anybody would want to talk to me way back in Sept of last year but it's been great and I hope it goes on a while longer.

lbr - No I'm not. I have a loong way to go to reach humble but part of growing towards reaching the state of real human being is learning to recognize each other in ourselves.

I bet you look great in your decked out pj's :-)

randal - Good heavens! Does this mean we've reached consensus?

diva - Beading is an addiction and for me it was for a while my version of mountain climbing. How many times can this piece of thread that feels like a cable go through this tiny bead without breaking it.. and having to start the section over? Nowadays I'm into the silk painting and the stories and dammit.. the full time job that keeps me away from my projects too much. Glad you like the scarf.

  6. Susan, I have tears in my eyes because I am so touched at this beautiful award and sincere affirmation you've presented me. Thank you so much! You are one amazingly talented person, and I am grateful to "know" you.

I treasure the Purity of Spirit necklace...what a beautiful creation.

I also want to say that I'm honored to be in the company of the other award-givers whom you have awarded.

  7. I saw your necklace at Diva's and it's so lovely.

I've been following you around the blogosphere for ages and admire your comments everywhere. But it has taken me this long to follow you home from Dcups. I have now blog rolled you. Sorry it took me so long to get here.

  8. BE - I'm delighted to know you've been by to visit and liked the 'award'. I couldn't think of a better way of expressing my regard and profound respect for what you and your husband have chosen to do. I'm not so brave but hope, if given the opportunity, to acquit myself half as well.

utah - Welcome to phantsy at long last and, yes, we do know one another from comment threads here and there. I know you're a hot lady with great writing skills and a fine sardonic sense of humor.

I'll be happy to add you to my blog roll too. It's only too late to make new friends when we're dead and gone and we can't be entirely sure of that either.

  11. i have a jar full of "beading" i wanted to do, and it's been sitting in a drawer for... um... seven years? heh. maybe one day, i'll actually make a necklace with the 50 or 70 sea urchin spines i collected on a beach in the south pacific. i bought some clasps and beads and things to use with them, but i lost them. they *must* be around here somewhere.

  12. linda - I hope you enjoy reading them and thanks for the kind words.

fairlane - Am I? I'd rather be funny like you.

sera - First time I walked into a bead store (run by Native Americans in Mass) I came out with more than our ancestors paid for Manhattan. The sea urchin spines would look nice with silver :-)

  13. lol i love your native american bead store story.
you wouldn't have wanted manhattan anyway, twisted around your wrist.

  14. sera - I'll never forget a day in March at that bead store when a little old white lady wearing a full size War Bonnet came walking through the door. She was so tiny 4' of bottom feathers dragged on the floor behind her.
