stopping by woods

This is one of the very big watercolors that didn't translate to Kodachrome well enough to be retrieved for future electronic viewing but I thought I'd post it anyway.

Dust of Snow

The way a Crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

Robert Frost

For DCup because she reminded me of it at a moment when I needed reminding and I wish I could conjure snowflake blessings for her and her family so they wouldn't lose their home.

  1. The painting and the poem are lovely and fit together as if Robert had seen your painting---only that isn't a crow. Hey, where's crow?

I am so sorry to hear this news about Dcup. I hate it when sh*t happens to such lovely people. I am so very sorry.

  2. Very sweet, Susan. Even if it is a photo of a photo, it's easy to see how glorious this piece is. I love your work.

  3. The painting looks great on my screen, Susan. I do wish that I could see them in person. Thanks for sharing the poem and the lovely sentiment.

  4. I love this, and the blue is the perfect shade, exactly what a magical night sky should look like.

  5. Thank you, Susan. I just realized that I take in your paintings the same way each time. First I circle the outside - you always have the most interesting borders - and then I zero in to the center.

What a beautiful painting and thank you for the wishes. I think we'll be okay in the end.

  6. lbr - Robert Frost has always been one of my favorite poets - a master of extraordinary insight combined with a concise vocabulary.

I wonder if that's Crow in disguise?

pagan sphinx - Thanks, my friend. I'm closing in on the end of the retrievable ones.

spartacus - It looks good on the screen of my favorite old (5yr) power book but faded on the new mac and sort of blah on the new Dell in my office. This electronic stuff is pretty arbitrary but we'd have to do some traveling to see the old ones in person.

randal - Glad you got to see it :-)

dcup - I am very sorry that you guys are bearing the brunt of this stuff. I know you'll be okay but I don't have to like what's happening.
