do you remember?

We loved Max.. hard to find the videos. I wonder why?

Max Headroom: Have you any idea how successful censorship is on TV? Don't know the answer? Hmm. Successful, isn't it?

Max Headroom: Now, I'm no librarian, in fact, I don't know what star sign I am. But, as a famous person once said, You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. And as I - another more famous person - once said, If you don't teach them to read, you can fool them whenever you like.

Max Headroom: Well, most people would agree that censors are a silly breed. In fact, it surprises me how they ever manage to breed at all.

Max Headroom: Say, would someone mind checking the ratings? I seem to have an audience of two.

Max: And then there's politicians. It's easy to tell when a politician is lying: their lips move.

(and if you look closely you'll see Ignatz the Cat, Dr. Who's Tardis and the baby picture of my closest friend as interpreted by Mark Mothersbaugh)

  1. Dear whomever owns the rights to this show, presumably Fox:

PUT IT OUT ON DVD NOW.

    Sincerely,

  2. Will you still love me if I admit that I found his communication style a bit on the annoying side?
I will give you that when I see his image I am immediately taken back to the 80's.

  3. I didn't have television back then so I have no idea who this fellow is. He does make a point or two, I'll give him that.
    (I can see I really haven't changed much ;~))

  4. I'm not sure I like Max much, except for his comment on politicians - but that picture is weirdly fascinating!

  5. There's a synopsis of Max Headroom aka 20 Minutes Into The Future here if you're interested and unfamiliar with the show. The very cool original was a film made by the BBC.

randal - We got a bad quality set copied from video tape.

utah - What I said to Randal ;-)

belette - I agree, a little goes a long way but the premise was prescient. It's a nice puppet.

liberality - We were in one of our television periods then. I thought you'd enjoy the librarian comment :-)

lol - Some of the humor hasn't stood the test of time after 20+ years. We don't buy much original artwork but we needed that one.

  6. i vaguely remember the name max headroom, but i don't know who he is. he's not a "real" person is he? but he's dead on about censorship. information and the free exchange of ideas is crucial to a free and healthy society.
the internet would be boring indeed if it wasn't subversive.
    cool picture.

  9. sera - An investigative reporter, Edison Carter, was subjected to a super brain scan by the group who attempted his murder. The now self-aware scan escaped into a computer network and makes random appearances on people's televisions. He's called Max Headroom because that's the last thing Carter saw before he whacked into the sign while racing out of a parking garage on a motorcycle.

Subversive is the cootie wootie :-)

    the crow - It's neat.

lisa - We bought the set from somebody who'd videoed the show but the quality isn't good.

  10. :-) :-) To this day my nickname is still "Max" because at my first job there were already three "Bill's" and everyone decided that I needed a nickname. At the time I used to comb my hair straight back in the style of Max Headroom...and so...
