tiger wise

Ah well, since I'm just plain bored with looking at an unfinished silk painting this morning I think I'll re-post a watercolor I did a few years ago. Partially done things are out of date, behind the times and irrelevant the very next time I pick up a brush. The Rolling Stones knew that decades ago when they sang 'Who needs yesterday's paper? Who needs yesterday's girl? Who needs yesterday's paper? Nobody in the world.' Come to think of it - remembering a little history might no go amiss.

Hope it's a good day where you are. Me? I have to go to work if I can avoid this hole in the floor :-)

Well, I could use one! At least there were PAPERS yesterday...

... and the painting today is very nice, thank you.

    And tomorrow is another day..

  2. lovely painting, as always...I am sitting here wondering if the sink full of ants I woke up to this morning at 5am , after yesterday's soaker, is still relatively ant-free 4 hours later! sigh....winter's coming...

  3. okjimm - At least then most people still knew how to read. Today I'm not so sure.

linda - We had bunches of tiny ants all around our kitchen sink during the summer heat wave. There are creepy crawlies that disgust me more but I don't like ants inside either.

  4. Just mentioned some ants in my last post. How's that for a blog-whoring segway??

I love the painting. Really, I do. My motorcycle is a Triumph Tiger. Last year, I considered having a painter do art work of a tiger on each side of the fuel tank, but then reconsidered for financial reasons. I had chosen the Hanshin Tiger logo. Hanshin Tigers are a Japanese professional baseball team.

    Good stuff susan.

    peace.

  5. Susan – love the tigers and my first reaction is to remember that poem – to quote the last lines -

    A reminder of tomorrow's mystery !

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?
    Tiger, Tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
    What immortal hand or eye
    Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
    - William Blake (1757-1827)

    Best wishes

  11. we get ants every fall, just when the weather changes. little tiny ones. i think they come in by the thousands, all inviting themselves to my kitchen. one day, they'll take over the world.

  13. spadoman - There's something magical about tigers - maybe it's their comparative rarity.. unlike ants. I'm not painting ants.

lindsay - That very poem might have been what got me fascinated with big cats long ago.

nancy - How kind of you to say so :-)

randal - It would be a small one but thanks for saying so :-)

jams - Cool. Every so often I post an old one because new ones take so long to paint :-)

the crow - The only way to do it was with great tenderness :-)

sera - You know I appreciate your noticing such things. Sometimes I have no idea what my symbols may mean.. just that certain things feel right.

linda - Thank you, my dear. I'll be by :-)

  14. came by for the promised bedtime story last night, then too tired to remember to comment here as well.... tigers and zebras and tortoise-shell kitties and tall grass.... i love stripey things... and i love the rich color here. as i must wear jeans and sturdy, hard to ruin clothes to work these days, i've promised myself some luscious scarves to break the monotony. your beautiful mermaid scarf will get a lot of wear this winter, methinks.

  15. g-fid - It's true that a nice scarf can brighten up any outfit. I'm sorry to hear you're so worn out but that has to be better than previous company.
