sitting still

Sometimes the best thing to do is to sit down in front of a large body of water and stay there for a while. This is a picture I took in our park just a few days ago on a breezy sunny day but I wish I could let you hear the waves and the rattling sound the rocks make as the water breaks and pulls away from the shore. On really good days the waves are even bigger than these but since I hardly ever carry my camera all I can do is sit and watch.

Do you have a favorite place?

  1. A rugged place, where pre-cambrian rock runs down to a lake and a river surrounded by evergreens. A place where Deer come to drink, Loons call, Beavers slap their tails, Bears forage, and Otters frolic. Where the most noise a Human makes comes from the paddle of a canoe or kayak.

  2. You must unlearn to hardly ever carry your camera, grasshopper.

  3. I want to take pictures to keep in my mind of these special places but damn, I hate lugging it around too. It gets in the way of the moment as it were.

There is a park I've been going to that has several walking/biking trails, benches by ponds to sit at, and a wide creek with a walking bridge to stop at and listen to the tinkling sounds of rushing water that is a favorite place.

    1. I feel that way about being in the moment too. The park you like to walk through sounds to be a very special place.

  4. Lovely spot! I love any place with water, always have. Add lots of trees, minus too many people.

  5. I have several and they all include water, though not ocean, as it is practically the only good thing we're missing here in Western Massachusetts.

I will send you my New England Peace Pagoda photos from mother's day weekend, which I spent with Ursula.

Meanwhile, sending you much love and continued serenity.

    1. Lakes, rivers, streams, and even small ponds are acceptable substitutes. Come to think of it, I've enjoyed many a puddle in my time. Rain is good too.

I'll look forward to seeing the pictures and appreciate you thinking of me.
Much love and pace to you.

  6. I think I can hear those waves.

My favorite place is very pedestrian. It's in my bed with my hand on MathMan's back right before I fall asleep.

    1. You'd like it there.

I can easily relate - we still hold hands when we watch a movie at home or out.

  8. Beautiful and clear day you captured with your (heavy) camera. Hint: ask Santa for a lighter-weight one for walks...

My favorite place is Steens Mountain/Alvord Desert in Harney County, Oregon.....tied with the Oregon coast.

  9. Is that the place where your blog header photo was taken? I never did get there but now I've seen some pictures and regret not having travelled around the state more. It is beautiful.

I'm glad you liked the picture :-)
