jubilant july

No, I didn't take this picture but it was such an amazing close-up of a very common summer flower I just couldn't resist sharing it. Did you know almost all dandelions are clones? They're most certainly the bane of gardeners and the delight of children. Dandelions have been famous among children for a very long time. What little girl has never used a dandelion 'clock' to tell the time? What little boy has never kicked the head of one (or a dozen) to watch the seeds fly away? If you know of any who haven't then those children should be encouraged to get out of the house more.

Yes, here we are with high summer blooming all around us and the two major North American summer holidays on the way. Tomorrow is Canada Day and next week will be the Fourth of July. Here's a celebratory video sent by a friend that I'll post in honor of both:

Crow will be home for the festivities and he's bringing another dear friend with him. The more the merrier when it's Fireworks time.

Good weekend to all.. and I hope it's not too hot where you are.

ps: We've been here for nearly two years and have never once heard anyone say 'you hoser'. I wonder if it's become unfashionable?

  6. This year there is a dearth of dandelions here. It is perplexing I must say. Usually every summer we are awash in them. Happy Canada Day to you dear susan!

    1. Strange about your lack of dandelions. There are some here but far more buttercups and daisies which I personally like more.

      Happy 4th, Lib!!

  7. biscuit delivered. not buying this kind again, as they're far too aromatic, in a way the dog loves, and i DON'T. hope your tour-guiding is going well.

i want to make music like this....

    1. I don't know why they don't make peppermint dog biscuits as they'd be ideal.

We had an enjoyable and very busy time (for us) these past few days. The weather was even perfect enough for an adventure at Crystal Crescent beach.

It's a bit like jug band music, isn't it?

  8. What a bunch of hosers, eh? From the sublime to the ridiculous is but a short leap. (in reference to the band and their instruments) My favorite is still the YouTube "So you say you want to be Canadian please"
Hope you had a good Canada Day. Here in "Merica, we will have the 4th of July tomorrow. Similar festivities as far as I know. We plan on beating the heat with a visit to Lake Superior for some swimming in the cold water. Been deathly hot here and in so many places. We're waiting for the grand thunderstorm to take it all away. I look forward to that more than the full moon or even an eclipse!
Hope all is good with you. So busy here that I haven't visited anybody, but I did think of you yesterday when I was driving in my Suzuki Sidekick, (Similar to the Tracker, but with a hard top). Back to normal, whatever that is, soon. Take care and be well.

    Peace

    1. Ah well, the youtube video inviting everyone to move to Canada was as much a sweet fantasy as anything else we're likely to see.

We had a dear friend visit us during the official celebrations so that made going to the fireworks extra nice. I know it's been unusually hot in the middle of the country and I hope you get some relief soon.

Everything is fine (as is our little Tracker who is still taking us on our adventures). Take good care.

  9. what a fabulous shot! some people can capture the most amazing images but i don't want to have to learn how to use those cameras!! and yes, i agree that if NOT, they need to be outside more.

hoping you are having a lovely week and your weekend was lovely as well. we are heating up here, fire danger is upon us now with the stupids and their fireworks that are supposed to be illegal-not that that matters. we're hyper-vigilant and that's stressful!

    1. Yes, I noticed the picture looks as though it was taken from an ant's eye view. I appreciate good photography but I'm not about to go there either.

I hope all is still well after the fireworks. They were selling them here at the supermarket the other day but we didn't see any backyard ones - just the big harbor display with our friend and several thousand others.

  10. That dandelion shot is so beautiful! Each little paratrooper seed has its own burst. And the water droplets making reflections are perfect. Mother Nature, the artist.

The video, on the other hand, shows the creativity of people. The internet is good for reminding us that there are people creating all the time and in ways we might never expect. Mass, commercial media is reductive. This wide-open sphere is expansive. For good and bad.

I'm late to wish you a Happy Canada Day, but right on time to wish you a happy Independence Day.

    Also - Chattahoochee! xoxoxox

    1. It's so wonderful there are photographers willing to do the work, eh? No matter how close we put our noses they'd never be close enough to see this.

To a large extent what we see these days are pretend musicians - all light and volume with no substance.

I hope you had a good 4th too.. and that you said 'hello' to the Chattahoochee this morning for me :-)

  11. It won't feel like a party until there are fireworks! Around here that won't be until the weekend. I hope you enjoyed something of the festivities for Canada Day. :-)

    1. Did you hear about the fireworks in SanDiego? The entire hour's worth of the planned display blew up in 5 seconds.. spectacular but sad. Ours were great and I hope the ones there are too.
