couldn't resist

As the days grow colder and the nights grow long, I couldn't resist posting this great picture of a dog surfing the waves at Huntington Beach, California. For the past few years there's been an annual Doggie Surf weekend at the end of September that provides much fun for the dogs and their human companions as well as money for animal rescue charities. Enough from me, though, enjoy the movie and remember warm, sunny days.

My favorite is the one surfing backwards, or is it the sitting poodle, or perhaps the little white dog hanging ten. Silliness is good.

  1. Oh, how fun for dogs and their humans! Great video.

At first look, I thought you'd taken the top photo on your local Halifax beach, and went brrrr!

    1. I'm glad you liked it too, Marja-Leena. We've seen a very few human thrill-seekers surfing here and some swimming dogs but no surf-dogs.

  2. I expect that top dog is enjoying itself but the look on its face does suggest otherwise.

    1. You're right he looks as if he might be having second thoughts, but perhaps he's just focused on 'shooting the curl'.

  3. The magnificent Black Standard Poodle rode, seated, as is befitting a Poodle's elegance.

Did Crow send this to you? What did he think? Did he want to go surfing too?

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

    1. His was a very dignified ride, wasn't it?

I'm afraid the picture of Crow surfing was too damaged by saltwater to show but he reports having enjoyed himself immensely. Perhaps next time :)

    2. i think he might have been a Portuguese Water Dog. they're often mistaken for Poodles; this fellow looks like an all-black version of my Maestro.

    3. He certainly looks proud and happy enough to be a direct relation to your Maestro.

  4. Hm. on the risk to be the dog in the manger: I don't think it's funny. I think the idea for this "great fun" got born in the brain of idiots who would know nothing better to spend their time.

    1. I understand what you're saying, Sean, and would agree for the most part. Some of the dogs do look distressed as Andrew mentioned earlier. Perhaps it was a mistake to post this but I see so many dogs joyously bounding into the sea the minute they're off their leashes I couldn't help but think most of them enjoy it.

    2. Ah, no no no. Not even perhaps [it was a mistake]. After all, the Don and I could be wrong, and those dogs felt they were the happiest creatures in all known galaxies and those yet to discover.:)

    3. They, like us, are lucky to be loved and care for.

Speaking of galaxies, and strange things yet to discover, I was happy to learn today that cosmologists have been flummoxed once again. The universe is full of surprises.
