a walk in the park - Point Pleasant, Halifax

This morning I found a comment from my old friend, Lindsay, that said he'd like to see more pictures of Point Pleasant Park here in Halifax. It turns out I do actually have some despite the fact I rarely carry the camera. They weren't all photographed on the same day, but all were taken during the months of May and June.

Even as it's possible you've seen most of the pictures before, if you'd like a quick look at our favorite local rambling spot again you'll find them here.

  1. There is a particular joy about foliage in Spring. It is such a luscious green, and not so dense as to be overwhelming.

  2. I heartily agree, Tom. The ephemeral quality of the light on new growth always lifts my spirits.

  3. What a delightful place. Are there any specific flower gardens, or any flowers at all? Does the place get a regular on-shore breeze from the ocean?

    1. The only flowers that grow at Point Pleasant are wild ones, Rob. What we do have in the centre of town is a Victorian park called The Public Gardens. One of these fine days I'll carry my camera over there and take pictures of flowers for you.

  4. Hi Susan,
Thanks for the great pics and I can understand how the park is one of your favourite haunts, with some rich history and interesting aspects. One shot is similar in scenery to one of our parks nearby. But I guess it is rather bleak in winter as the picture suggests.
Maybe it’s now time for some June Shakespeare by the sea!!
    Best wishes

    1. I'm very pleased to know you enjoyed seeing them, Lindsay.

Shakespeare By The Sea is pretty neat. Last year they performed 'Snow White', 'Hamlet', and 'Much Ado About Nothing'.

It was news to us that the Bard wrote 'Snow White'..
      best wishes to you too.

  5. Ships, gulls, crows and squirrels, with butterfly kites, ha! Love walking around in the park during the spring and autumn months. I try to stay inside more during the hottest times and of course during the winter. Lovely pictures susan.

    1. It's a very lovely place year round, but you're right that the walks are more pleasant during the temperate seasons.
I'm happy to know you enjoyed seeing the pictures, Lib.

  6. Early spring is such a relief after the drab holdover of winter... new life - a new beginning... and then it's bug season.

    1. Spring in these parts takes a while to get up to speed but it's nice now it's here. Thankfully, not too many bugs this close to the ocean.

    1. It is, Claire. It's also nice to see the police exercising their horses out there sometimes.
