Saki, for instance. This is my introduction, right here, along with the most perfect drawing to accompany it. Susan, you are a wonder and a constant source of enrichment in my life. From what I've read about H.H. Munro it seems he was a pretty cynical and not particularly cheerful man (he had a pretty brutal upbringing). I hope he'd like the illustration, but I'd never count on that reaction.
All the bestsusanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16747450215034568033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8764563741359701027.post-87540367656481352042015-03-23T03:22:28.208-07:002015-03-23T03:22:28.208-07:00Hi Susan

I had the guy seated on an undetermined flat surface to begin with and when he was drawn reasonably well the lounge grew naturally - I wanted it formal but not uniform. The carpet is evidence of me being too worn out (read: lazy) to draw a pattern of figures while at the same time needing something to focus the viewer's attention toward the characters. A shag carpet would never have been acceptable in an Edwardian drawing room :)

I'm glad the story reminded you of your daughters.susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16747450215034568033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8764563741359701027.post-69426760108783243082015-03-21T10:02:24.320-07:002015-03-21T10:02:24.320-07:00On the minutia: I love the very Edwardian/Victoria...On the minutia: I love the very Edwardian/Victorian loveseat, the feet particularly. There was something very familiar about the opening lines, and then I remembered that I read this 'ghost story' to Lucy over the Christmas period. So lovely to see it arise from part of a life lived once more.Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09028121782477111901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8764563741359701027.post-26395722640706533132015-03-21T02:53:25.830-07:002015-03-21T02:53:25.830-07:00Romance at short notice indeed!
