kick ass? not really..

I should have done this several days ago but I haven't been around much and besides, it's been too HOT. When the ambient temperature outside and in closes on or above my body temperature I'm pretty much good for nothing. After all, I really am a Canadian.. and one who was born in England at that - so I wilt.

While I was working in an environment cold enough to freeze sperm in it's home surroundings or home lying in front of the biggest fan we own three very cool people separately nominated me for the 'Kick Ass Blogger Award' shown here. My fine artiste friend Randal whose poesy and acuity with sardonic visual images and comments are a constant delight sent the first one. The next surprise arrived soon after when the witty and wise fast talking Okjimm left me a message that he'd nominated phantsy too. Then, just yesterday (or was it the day before?) another fine visual artist Steve Emery left a comment on the last story I posted to tell me he'd given the award to Adventures, Ink. I'm pretty overwhelmed and very glad you like my stuff.. what little there is most days since I know I'm not prolific by any stretch.

Anyhow, now I will post the rules and my choices. Please forgive my delay.

Do you know any bloggers that kick ass?
Maybe they’ve got incredible, original content. Or they’re overflowing with creativity. Is it someone that helps you become a better blogger? Or a bloggy friend you know you can count on? Or maybe it’s someone who simply inspires you to be a better person… or someone else who sends you to the floor, laughing your ass off.
Whatever the reason may be, I’m sure you know at least a couple of bloggers that kick ass. Well… why not tell ‘em so?
The rules to this are as follows:1) Choose five other bloggers that you feel are "Kick Ass Bloggers"2) Let them know that they have received an award.3) Link back to both the person who awarded you and also to Visit the Kick Ass Blogger Club HQ to sign Mr. Linky and leave a comment.

First - Zee at Sunburst Gem. He's a wonderful artist and sculptor who's also a stranger in a strange land in the United States of the latter days. He's a passionate proponent of fairness and humanitarianism and desrves more awards than the one I can give.

Second - Gary at Withinsight. Gary is Canadian and lives in the beautiful Okanagan Valley in BC which I think is a pretty essential condition for someone who's been an executive member of Amnesty International for a long time. He's kind, charming, unflappable (at least in a public forum) and has wonderful pictures.

Third - Ingrid of Blogger Round Table - a blog devoted to understanding the current world situation from the uniquely European viewpoint of someone who now lives in Austin. She's very wise and has a great heart.

Fourth - Lindsay of Lindsay's Lobes, an Australian friend who takes a lot of time to investigate and explain his perspectives regarding the economics, culture and political system of the United States. His thoughts and hope for all of us are inspiring.

Fifth - Gfid , also known as Granny Fiddler, North of Sanity. It's true too. Gfid lives so far north she's hardly been around this summer because when you live that close to muskeg it's best to get all the sun you can when it's available. She plays violin, teaches and tells wonderful stories.

I hope you'll visit them all and maybe we'll see each other there too.

what the hell am I supposed to do - to get my degree? I am "out of it" today. But I do like useless papers that I can print out and pin up on my wall. There is a certain charm about this - I want it, that award. And if I don't get it, I will stamp my feet on the ground and be a real cry baby.
You haven't seen nothing yet!!!

Now you're prolific, two posts in two days. Make it three! Unless it's still 100°. Don't want your computer to melt.

zee - I hate to be the first to tell you but this is a virtual award meant to decorate the sidebar of your blog. There is no physical object to hang on your wall unless you have time to carve one or conversely you can copy it to your desktop, save as and print one to hang. Basically, that's also how you post it to your sidebar too.. grab, save as, then post as a picture. Then you get to copy the rules if you want and award some other deserving bloggers of your acquaintance. It's the best I can do for now to let you know how much your joie de bloggery means to me.

randal - I don't want it to melt either and that's been a distinct possibility lately. How do laptops vent anyway?

ingrid - I haven't known Zee and Lindsay all that long but they're very cool people. Gary I've known for more than 20 years since he's my brother-in-law. When I told him nearly a year ago I'd started phantsy he was kind enough to introduce me at withinsight. I'm very glad to know you'll be happy to pass the award along. You do deserve the recognition.

Hi Susan
Thanks for the award and naturally enough I delighted to be included with those blogging buddies you have mentioned, whose posts and thoughts are always so interesting to read.
Best wishes

Well Susan blow me down!! I did not know he was your brother in law..aha! No wonder he had to do a nice promo of your site.. He's truly well respected and well liked. Zee I had seen out an' about on other people's comment section until somehow we started 'visiting'. As for Lindsay, well, he was part of the bloggers against torture as well I believe, weren't you Lindsay? Any comment from him in rhyme is always much appreciated and much cherished.. he's our own nobel poet laureate!
and I mispoke earlier, it's not gadfly but granny fidler and you know..she sounds so familiar..anyhow..good company all around!

What is this - a big fat family; incest, Mormons crawling across the hill top, Adam and Eve, Noah's Arc, Babel - or some other kind of conspiracy?
I will not have part of that.

...but I will take my award and glue it somewhere on a wall, visible to each idiot who enters my premises.

You do kick ass, Susan. Not bad for a Raven!

You are wonderful. And modest. Congrats to a most deserving, talented blogger!

I look forward to checking out your chosen bloggers when I have a chance.

well, shucks, thanks..... gonna be hard to give out awards from my end.... you've already given them to most of my top picks.... can i double up?

lindsay - I was very pleased to nominate you for an award that's so well deserved. You really make a difference not only with your own fascinating posts but most especially with your insightful comments wherever you visit.

ingrid - Good company, indeed! Good friends too and I'm delighted to count you among them.

zee - Every family has it's own black sheep :-) and I'm glad ours happens to be as funny as you.

I want to see that award next time this idiot visits your blog.

divajood - Yeah, Crow doesn't have much of a kick but he's got a great peck.

spartacus - Thanks, and now that our three day annual heatwave is over I'm feeling much better.

pagan sphinx - I'm grateful you think so since your thoughts mean a lot to me. The bloggers I got to name are wonderful too so I hope you get the chance to stop by. I wish I could do more visiting myself but time just gets sucked away, doesn't it?

gfid - Yes, you can double up. I just wanted you to have a neat award to post on your terrific site.

Now, I don't want to sound naive, but I am: What does a little "reward-pic" on your side bar do in the grand picture?
Can't I construct my own and give it to everyone?

susan said...

zee - You're certainly no more naive than I am about this stuff and the little pics are nothing in and of themselves (more like a kind of chain letter so far as I can tell) but what's special about them is having someone you have mutual respect for giving you one. That's how it appears to me.

The 'Riot Grrls' one was made by Suzi Riot and I've had an idea to make one too.. as you said, to give to whomever you like. If I do it there won't be any silly rules attached either.

I'm still glad I was able to pass one along to you and you definitely qualify as 'kick ass'.
