summer afternoon

It's a hot day around here and the laptop isn't making me any cooler but since I haven't made a July appearance I thought I'd post a picture of a favorite painting I did and pretend she's waiting for the fireworks.. or sky flowers as they were called in 'Land of the Dead'.

Did you hear about the 7 foot tall guy who went to the swimming pool looking for a job as a lifeguard? The manager asked if he could swim and the man said, 'No but I can wade out pretty far.'

or

Railway porter (cheerfully): 'So, did you miss your train, sir?'
Passenger: 'No, I didn't like the look of it so I chased it down the track.'

Happy Fourth and belated Happy First for the other Canadians besides me :-) Have a beer, some iced lemonade or whatever suits you and enjoy a great summer weekend.

  1. Lovely painting. I'm enjoying the first forth I can remember that wasn't 100 degrees. It's been in the mid 80s most of the day. Ms M is having a party and I'm getting ready to eat and retire with Margaret Cho. If only. I taped her special and will watch it tonight while the party takes place in my lovely back yard without me.

I'm watching my dh worry someone is going to burn the place down with all this dry grass up here....every year, same old thing...hohum... ;)

    Peace!

  3. Your painting belies the warm weather you are enduring. The local of this painting seems like a place where it never gets too hot. I like that kind of place.

We went to the movies and out to lunch and plan on staying at home and watching the fireworks from our patio. The beverage of choice is Prosseco.

  4. Hi, Susan

Another beauty of a painting. So peaceful and yet bursting with life. I love it.

My birthday was on Canada Day. I like that about it, because I love Canada and Canadians. :-)

    All the love,
    Gina

  5. Loved the painting. Hope you had a nice start to July and the summer. It is still cool here. Nice afternoons, cool mornings and evenings. I guess there is some advantage to living at 6500 ft. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  7. I love the painting. The colors reflect the heat of your day. And the subject is dressed for the weather, too.

I hope you had a good day. We had a very quiet 4th in which we read on the deck and ate an assortment of cheese, fruit crackers, homemade salsa......and polished off a bottle of Beaujolais. I could go for more days like that one.

  8. utah - I hope your weather stays just warm enough to enjoy the quiet moments.

linda - This one's framed and hanging in the living room. I don't mind the civic fireworks; it's the locals in their back yards near the dry woods who worry me.

belette - I hope you've had a wonderful day and that Lily didn't get too upset at the noise.

pagan sphinx - Belated Happy Birthday. This makes you an honorary Canadian :-)

nancy - That must be why Tahoe is such a favorite summer retreat. We're at the 500' mark so when it heats up we're right here to get the brunt.

liberality - Oh, you did too ;-)

lisa - For some reason I liked her enough to have her share our space.. naked and a bit bemused.

I'm glad you had a nice, relaxing day. You should have more like it to give you space to work on the novel.

  10. sera - Glad to see you and I hope you're beginning to feel better.

Yes, it must be the warm mystery of the place I found with this one that made me like it more than others. I think we get scared because it's easy to forget we're more than bodies.

I liked when it was called Dominion Day :-)

  11. Beautiful painting!

Happy 4th right back at ya, Susan. It was a bit rainy in the Chicago area but it cleared up in time for fireworks and barbecuing.

  12. The joke about the seven-foot fellow gave me a much needed giggle. Thanks.

How were the sky-flowers in Portland?

  13. yeah.
spiritually i believe we feed into cosmic energy and continue to exist and recycle.
but intellectually, i can't shake the fear that once the body dies, the "i" dies with it.
