old find
A few days ago while we were going through some old things that have been packed for a very long time, I came across this somewhat faded photograph of what may be the first bordered watercolor I ever painted. The date on the picture said early 70's but back then I never signed or dated anything on the front and the painting itself was sold long ago. Still, it was nice enough seeing it again that I thought I'd share.
I should be working on more pictures right now but the days have been overly warm and clammy for weeks. Having my arm stick to my table while sweat drips onto the paper isn't my favorite way of feeling a deep connection to creative endeavors. Then there's reading the news which can sometimes have exactly this effect on me:
I hope things are cooling down where you are.

oh oh oh..... I terribly needed a laugh.... what a great video. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI've watched it a few times and it always makes me laugh.
DeleteIt is fun to find one's old work, and to see if there is still a connection to one's current way of working. I see it here, for usre, a lovely piece it is.
ReplyDeleteIt's been hot here, up to 32C, but at this very moment it's finally cooler with a bit of light rain. which has me sitting in open doorways, breathing in the scnet of rain and enjoying a bit of cooling! Nothing was getting done, even watering plants were a struggle. Never mind artmaking. Love that video!
Thanks, Marja-Leena.
DeleteThe strange thing here has been the extreme humidity I don't remember last year. We've been poaching rather than roasting :-)
The movie was hilarious and all too true.
No, no crawling, not allowed :)
ReplyDelete"it's time to go home now dear"
I'm happy you liked it :-)
DeleteBob Ross from the Mirror Universe?
ReplyDeleteP.S. Go away, summer.
Could be. It certainly isn't Bill Alexander.
DeleteNo heatwave here in London!
ReplyDeleteBut has the rain stopped?
DeleteI LOVE that painting. You know I'm a fan of the borders. And that faint moon in the background is perfect.
ReplyDeleteThat video is hilarious. I can relate to that nice painter. Very much.
My very first border.. I think I'm a bit teary eyed :-)
DeleteIt was very easy to relate to that one.
just a quick stop by to catch up.... bog snorkeling! the bounty! BLACK!!! and a long ago bordered painnting! you've got me hooked on borders.... droopy eyelids ... off to bed. :0)
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you're still surviving. I hope you have sweet dreams of whatever pleases you most. Miramichi and good night :-)
Deletegesuntheit! (or however the germans spell that)

"We crawl on our knees toward our doom!" Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI love the red ornamentation between the columns.
xxoo
It's one of those rare videos that can make me laugh every time I see it.
DeleteWhat I noticed is that my work actually did improve with time.
xoxo
I haven't laughed this hard in quite some time...i really related. i am so like this when i paint.... without the public spectacle most of the time... and the woman is husband being patient and putting up with my dramatic airs...hahahahaha, thank you i needed that.
ReplyDeletenow i could swear i commented on this piece of historical susan loveliness but alas, i must have thought i would come back and then went to prison i suppose, but anyway. it is so lovely in it's softness, i have always wondered how you achieve this in your paintings and now i think you do trick photography and have been all these years. i mean...look at that gorgeous moon! you are muting it or something so it merely looks that way. i knew you had tricks up your pretty sleeve. kidding of course, my dear. it's that hilarity you made me watch. xoxoxo
It was my very talented artist friend Geraldine who sent me this video. I'm sure there's not an artist on the planet who can't relate to it - including you and me as well.
DeleteWhen I painted this picture I was still trying to figure out the techniques used by Edmund Dulac. Since there are no records of just how he worked (they all mixed their own colors from minerals) I was left to muddle around on my own with opaque paints. It's far from one of my best efforts but I'm glad you like it - you sweet woman you.
xoxoxo
i am just going to have to risk prison again and watch one more time...sigh...the things you make me do. xxx
ReplyDeleteGo ahead :-)
Deleteoh i have been truly exposed in this character...BLACK BLACK... I had to watch another one... hilariously funny..i love bbc. much better than three boys and a boy or whatever. xox and am off now to eat a taco..or something similarly non-gluten. have i bitched about that lately? woe ... no, BLACK BLACK!
ReplyDeleteHave I mentioned how nice it is to see you black?.. I mean BACK :-)
Deletexoxoxo
haha, you witty woman and believe or not, I have done all this chatting on an iPad !
ReplyDeleteI shared this with sig. other.. otter?.. and he looked at me strangely as I tried to keep from peeing as I laughed myself silly again. those skandies and their notorious lack of humor.......... if he weren't both handsome and productively employed, I might think perhaps... no, been there done that... big mistake, BIG! :) xox
I always feel bad for people who were still in the physical attraction line while the sense of humor was being handed out. At least I'm glad you enjoyed it again. Yes.. some temptations once savored in full are best left as fond but ironic memories.
Deleteridiculous but I must go plunge myself into water so as not to send doc screaming from room along w/ his acupuncture needles, IV bag, lidocaine syringe and bad jokes timed inappropriately.......
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a nice bath. You just reminded me of the chatty dentist and the impossibility of replying to their remarks. I've long been certain only latent sadists take up dentistry.
