round and round

Having had to keep the curtains and windows closed on weekdays for the first  two months of summer has pretty much stopped me doing much drawing (the paints and brushes remain packed away).

Not to be one to do nothing when I'm kept from the drawing table, I've been spending some of the downtime making little beaded bits again. Whether I'll apply for a small space at the local Christmas craft fair in December is still to be decided, but having nothing at all to show would make the idea a moot one.

Up to now I've made fifteen beaded pendants and a couple of new bracelets. What's been trickier, though, has been trying to take three or four decent pictures of each one - yes, it's a juried show. Once I have access to my workspace and daylight again on a regular basis I guess I'll figure it out.

Nevertheless, making things is much more fun for me than photographing them. Out of more than a hundred images taken one late afternoon a few days ago, these are the best ones so far. Thank goodness for digital cameras, eh?

The good news is that our windows and the balcony door will be replaced on Tuesday - the last place on this side of the building. Besides having to move the furniture away from the front of the apartment (!) we've already noticed it takes the crew the better part of twelve hours to complete a switchover so I guess we'll be taking a trip that day. Know of any good movies showing this summer?

ps: I wouldn't have cared about this work if anything had been noticeably wrong with the old windows, but there wasn't. I wonder why is everything always about appearances these days.

  1. What's that old saying about busy hands? Yours certainly are. These are gorgeous pieces, Susan! They will do well at a Christmas market.

You'll be so glad to have that window job finished.

    1. Hah! It's still fun to see what can come together from unstrung beads. I think I tend towards addictive behaviour. Thanks for the sweet compliment about success at their eventual debut.

Oh yes, I will be glad. They told us the lintels would be replaced but it turned out 'lintels' meant every brick in the walls.

  2. Try the movie The Heat: nothing to ponder over, just entertaining.

  3. hello dear susan!
no, not dead just not online. i seem to get away from this and have a hard time getting back again. weird i think. i don't even want to open the lappie to read email and that can be a bad idea these days since everyone i know uses that instead of the phone mostly. sigh....what's an oldie to do? just open the damned thing once in awhile i guess.

these pieces are beautiful and so's your photos. i am sorry to read you are still having to deal with the bs of buildings there. that's going to be practically all summer you've been dealing with it! amazingly ridiculous and inept, in my humble opinion. ;) if i were walking around a christmas faire, i'd buy one! but i won't be... i haven't been to one of those in years. around here it's mostly TP roll covers or kleenex box crocheted boxes. ugh...

i haven't been painting either and have not much excuse excepting exhaustion. i guess that qualifies.. well i hope they get onto your windows soon so you have your light again. wow, you have much more patience than i would have. much love to you~~ xoxox

    1. I'm glad to see you've been back for a little prowl around Blogtopia. It's always a relief as well as a delight when I read your sweet comments. I've been offline more than used to be the case as well. Things are quieter and slower so I don't feel the necessity to keep up the pace that was common a few years ago. I kind of think bloggers in general are older now and that's fine with me.

I'm glad you like these little pendants I've been making and the pictures of them too. It's still going to take some work to get 3 or 4 good pictures of each one, beadwork being notoriously difficult to photograph even for professionals and I don't have any kind of photography studio stuff. We'll see about the fair when the time gets closer but they definitely had no beadwork at the one I went to in the spring. It would be very nice to sell some things I've made - especially in a non-threatening environment.

I'm sorry you're so exhausted and I know the heat affects you even worse than it does most of us. Personally, I hate it and the humidity that accompanies it around here. I wonder if a little window air conditioner for your bedroom might help? The full air systems are very expensive but a small one should be doable.

Take good care, my friend. I'll be by soon.
      xoxo

    1. The suffering this summer has only been losing the peace and quiet necessary for the art-work. I'm delighted you like these.

  7. It is good that you can find other ways to channel your energies. I am not surprised that you are able to create beauty in other ways besides pen and brush.
