Black Man Given the Nation's Worst Job

WASHINGTON—African-American man Barack Obama, 47, was given the least-desirable job in the entire country Tuesday when he was elected president of the United States of America. In his new high-stress, low-reward position, Obama will be charged with such tasks as completely overhauling the nation's broken-down economy, repairing the crumbling infrastructure, and generally having to please more than 300 million Americans and cater to their every whim on a daily basis. As part of his duties, the black man will have to spend four to eight years cleaning up the messes other people left behind. The job comes with such intense scrutiny and so certain a guarantee of failure that only one other person even bothered applying for it. Said scholar and activist Mark L. Denton, "It just goes to show you that, in this country, a black man still can't catch a break."

With thanks to The Onion

Sad but true. Nevertheless, along with you guys, I'm still pretty euphoric. For once in a lifetime we've got the brass ring. The monster aren't gone but at least they're no longer holding the reins and tomorrow is another new day.. and the girls get a puppy to take to the White House.

  1. Yet another lovely watercolor. How celebratory...perfect for today. Undoing the mess is a tall order. Way too big for one person. We all must pitch in.

  2. Wowsers, a new puppy for the White House. I think the girls will be much happier with that than anything.... quite frankly I would rather move to Vancouver than the
White House.... but wadda I know????

  3. Heh.. this Onion story would not be so funny if it weren't so true. But I'm not so certain we got a brass ring as much as we got a bag of dog doo-doo. It's a really big mess Obama needs to clean up. I'm just sayin...

  4. be - Thanks.. and you're absolutely right but I don't know anybody who's already pitching in as much as you.

okjimm - I've never figured out why anyone would want that job but you have to agree it's gonna look good on Obama. I'm actually hoping to be in Vancouver or Halifax before the next one. Enough's enough and even a puppy won't make me stay.

spartacus - I didn't have any nice paintings of a bag of doo doo or else I would have used it. It's too goddamn true.

  5. i love how you drew the horse! I'm guessing its another of your earlier works. beautiful!
i wish president-elect obama luck. being president is almost a no-win job because there's no way to please everyone.
at least, the brassring is still worth the gamble.

  6. Hi Susan ......what can you say ........
A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral.

  7. Susan..thanks[s]. As mentioned before, the Onion article is satirical, but true in a sense. However, then there is Lindsay who has a pearl of wisdom or a quote to turn that upside down on its head..
I hope that all people will continue to do their part after the honeymoon is done..
and loove..yes loove that picture..we're on another merrygo round of sorts but this one at least, let's us enjoy it, instead of being spun and spun and spun ..
great colours..boy, if only I could find someone to do a version of that on my walls!!
    hugs

  8. Love this past work retrospective that you are giving us. Thank you. Really lovely and a perfect image for today. He did it! And, the sense of optimism, possibility and hope that he brings is unprecedented. He does have a lot of work ahead of him. If he could survive the brutal attacks he faced this last year I feel sure he can handle all that is ahead of hime.

  9. Now's your chance to do a watercolor of dog doo-doo.

On second thought, don't. Another dragon would be nice. Can you make them real and have them eat the neocons?

  10. That was hilarious. And I'm still euphoric.

  11. btw Susan..perhaps you can have some sort of contest (Like Gary has done in the past and I believe Zee as well) and one of your paintings could be the price!!
Any one of your drawings and paintings, from whichever time 'period' really appeals to me..if only you could put ALL your work in one gallery for an exhibit..truly..I love your art! [s]!!

  13. sera - My first passion was horses :-) and yes, it's an early one. I'm also hoping the brass ring Obama caught will be worth his while.

lindsay - I've always like that quote too. This one is great too and works well for current times:

"One can be a brother only in something. Where there is no tie that binds men, men are not united but merely lined up."

ingrid - Thanks for coming by and reminding me to say something when I was still overwhelmed by the result. Yes, there will be lots to do and I'm glad of fine friends like you to talk things over with.

lbr - You just know the crazies on the right with the help of Fox will be sharpening their barbs and getting ready for Jan. 21st. We're just going to have to help in whatever ways we can. So far, so good.

randal - I've always thought people would be better if we lived in a world with real dragons. I'll keep my eyes open and let you know.

cdp - It was too perfect not to share. I haven't followed the Onion much these past few years.

ingrid - I've had two contests - one at the new year and another just a couple of months ago with the prizes being two of my silk scarves. I have less than 20 paintings (never was all that prolific) - all but one of which painted since we moved out here 15 years ago. I used to do gallery shows but not since we left the east coast and I doubt I'll do another.

dianne - I used to visit the Onion all the time and then I got out of the habit - maybe because the comedy of the Cheney regime was too intense. They do have a way of hitting the nail on the head and young Barack is going to need all the strength he can muster. Thanks for coming by phantsy.

  14. I love the painting.

I'm glad that we've elected a thinking person to lead us out of this mess.

  15. dcup - Glad you like it.

Yes, President Obama will be fine but will need support.
