back at ye olde drawing board

If I'm not doing one thing it seems I often find myself involved in doing half a dozen things at about the same time. It can get confusing but it's kind of fun too. This little guy who appeared this afternoon will likely be an element in a painting I have on the drawing board. It's good I have more than one drawing board because there's another illustration in progress that had to move to a shelf temporarily while I work on this one. My drawing table isn't all that big.

The painting on the shelf I'm afraid to show you. It's not that it isn't a good one in my opinion but that it's the first  picture in what will be a story that was only told once or twice a long time ago. It never had pictures. It may not even need pictures as most people, especially small people (known as children) have very active visual imaginations. Anyway, it's getting pictures, probably a dozen, but I'll keep them to myself for a while as I work the whole thing out in the real. Scans are being done so once I'm closer to finishing I'll show you the process as it happened. It may take a while.

Next, I have a couple of stories in mind for the long neglected Adventures Ink. The whole idea with them was they could be drawn fairly fast once I knew which one I wanted to relate. I've remembered a couple.

So that's what I'm up to. If you're not bored yet or don't have anything else to do for a couple of minutes you might like this little animation I found. It's a bit strange but I like strange and I like van Gogh and it's nice to see something a little bittersweet. So far as I can tell it was made by an Iranian team.

  1. So happy for you that you have so many art projects on the go, Susan! I can hardly wait to see them. This character looks interesting. May you enjoy your days over your drawings and paintings...

Loved the video too, thank you.

    1. As the skilled artist you are, I'm sure you're also familiar with having multiple art projects in various stages. I don't know why I'm feeling refreshed but I am and ever grateful for your encouragement.

    1. I don't know if there'll ever be another as cool as The Art Class but I'll give it a shot.

  3. I loved that video....am sending it to my granddaughter, she'll really like it.

Keep on working hard, make up for the rest of us slackers. ;-)

    1. It was a neat one, wasn't it? Very understated.

Given the choice, I prefer artwork to other work.

  4. love this little guy and cannot wait to see what you are up to. so many possibilities going on with you right now. and why is he holding a space ship of sorts?? you've got me guessing... it isn't unusual for me to have that many things going on at the same time but i think it's called a "disorder" in my regard, doubtful of that in yours. :)

of course, i really want to see the picture you aren't showing right now. but i guess i can wait.... not that i have a choice! i love another adventures ink story. they are always so much fun, given you base them on your very colorful life. and even if you don't, it still feels like it. i wanted more story with your last drawing actually. :) xoxoox

    1. He entered my mind as I contemplated how to revise an older drawing, one that will definitely get posted once it's done. You know how that goes and I think your ease with discussing these problems has made it simpler for me to move from one drawing/painting to another while the plan simmers.

As far as the new Adventure(s) is concerned I thought I'd skip over a few of the more turbulent stories from my youth (gah! I wasn't always clever and rarely wise) and go right to work - yes, some employment adventures to start. I'm glad glad glad you always come by. There'll be more.

  5. The creature who arrived this afternoon is . . . peculiar. Hardly looks dangerous, but can hang on to a space ship. Hope you keep up your writing and drawing.

And the video! Oh, my. I can so clearly identify with it.

    1. There's a deep background story to this one, Rob. I wrote something fairly big last spring and then got stuck on how best to tell the story. My plan is to present a painting from the series as they happen and eventually tie them together. I love your using the word 'peculiar'. The world is often that way.

The little movie had a profound lesson, didn't it?

  6. It's the sequel that Monsieur Verne never got around to writing!

  7. I love the way his forehands so carefully clasp the ship, and his netherhands politely clasp each other. Wailing, eagerly waiting for the story. The luminous colors in the video are magical, as is the accompanipying music.

    1. Isn't he sweet? It was his hands, both fore and nether, that decided the picture for me.

Glad you liked the movie ♡

  8. This is such good busy. Does your creature have a name?

And thank you for the video. It's quite lovely.

    1. The children call him Eustace since his true name is unpronounceable in our language. Good busy is the best kind.

  9. Is your Eustace holding a missile? Looking forward to his story. Are there female Eustaces? :-)

I've been busy too. This is the first winter in many where I have not felt lethargic and I am celebrating by taking on things I never had the energy to try. I taught myself something new recently, though I am not yet ready to reveal what it is until I get better at it.

    1. He's sweet,isn't he? No, that's definitely a spaceship - perhaps a toy, perhaps not.

I'm glad to hear you're feeling so much more energetic this winter than others. Your mystery skill sounds very promising and I'm looking forward to the unveiling.

  10. Good for you that you are inspired and working on your projects.

Me, I am in some sort of slump lately. Sort of a bah humbug type of thing only it's not x-mas anymore.

    1. I just wish I could get things done a bit faster sometimes because I can never be quite sure a slump won't arrive unexpectedly either. I hope yours doesn't last much longer. Reading your posts is always enjoyable.
